Vietti Barolo Castiglione 2012
"The 2012 Barolo Castiglione is a gorgeous, radiant wine. Sweet red cherry, pomegranate, wild flowers and spices all meld together in a sensual Barolo endowed with striking presence and intensity. In 2012, the Castiglione is especially lifted and expressive, with compelling purity and nuance. With time in the glass, the wine freshens up considerably, so aeration is a good idea for readers who want to open the 2012 early. This is an attractive, seriously delicious Barolo from Vietti."
Brovia Barolo Brea Ca'Mia 2011
94 points Galloni
"Lavender, mint, sage, smoke, tobacco and plums are all laced together in the 2011 Barolo Brea Vigna Ca'Mia. As always, the Ca'Mia is a decidedly vertical Barolo built on a spine of persistent tannin, but in 2011 there is a little bit of added polish that serves to soften the contours. Tucked off the main road, Brea remains one of the least well-known vineyards in Serralunga. The 2011 is a great wine to start exploring some of the nuances of this site. A huge finish that brings together power and voluptuousness captures the pure radiance of the year."
Cappellano Barolo Chinato 500ml (2010 base)
Barolo Chinato is basically Barolo base wine infused with quinine and other herbs. I like to say it smells like Christmas in a bottle. Amazing after a meal with dark chocolate or by itself. Many Barolo producers make their own versions of Chinato but Cappellano invented it and is still considered the greatest producer of this marvelous beverage.
