MONTEVERTINE

Fall is here and with it comes one of my favorite wines from Tuscany, Montevertine. Every October we get in smaller and smaller amounts of this now too well-known Sangiovese based red wine. The timing of the arrival is perfect as I can think of no wine more suited to fall weather than the soulful, earthy reds from this esteemed estate located halfway between Florence and Siena. The enthusiastic press on these wines means they are sought-after by collectors and Tuscan wine lovers worldwide. The two new arrivals today are the 2016 Pian del Ciampolo, a perennial favorite, smooth, easy drinking blend of Sangiovese, Canaiolo and Colorino. The second wine is the dynamic and powerful 2015 Montevertine Rosso di Toscana. This wine is the same blend as the Pian but from older vines that see a SE exposure as opposed to the W-NE exposure of the Pian. This creates a deeper, richer wine. We also have a small collection of some older bottlings including the flagship 1998 Le Pergole Torte and super rare 1998 Il Sodaccio.
